Hair Replacement for Trich (trichotillomania) – Compulsive Hair Pulling
Trichotillomania (TTM), commonly known as “trich” is a compulsion to pull out your own hair. Hair loss as a result of trich may occur in round patches or at different areas across the scalp. Trich affects up to 5% of the population in some form. Women are four times more likely to be affected as men.
Typical symptoms of trichotillomania are:
- Continual pulling/ twisting of your hair
- A building sense of tension prior to hair pulling
- Pleasure/ relief following hair pulling
- Uneven appearance (patchy) appearance of hair
- Bald patches/ diffuse hair loss
We understand that trich can have a terrible impact on sufferers. We can help with treating the visible effects of trichotillomania allowing you to become more relaxed.
Many adult hair pullers have low self esteem and report feelings of unattractiveness and isolation. Until the underlying compulsion has been fully resolved hair replacement surgery is not indicated. Hair replacement systems can be used to restore confidence and address the external symptoms of trich.
